Reception - Cherry Class
Welcome to Cherry Class
We are the Reception class here at Hormead; our class teacher is Miss O'Connor. Mrs Griffin is our lovely teaching assistant in the morning and Miss Standing is our lovely teaching assistant in the afternoon. Mrs Dunn, Mrs Wade and Miss Lynch support us as a 1:1 teaching assistants.
Every Wednesday, Ivy Eileen teaches us at Forest School. We also have our PE session on a Tuesday with Mr Fitzgerald.
On our class page, you will find regular updates on our learning and useful information. Alongside our page, please see Class Dojo for our regularly updated class stories and any new messages. We will continually update you on any key dates, events, reminders or important information. Therefore, please check daily.
If you have any questions or any concerns, you are very welcome to message us through Class Dojo.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Miss O'Connor

Our curriculum topic planning is planned in advance of each half-term. However, our daily activities, teaching and learning are led by the children's own interests and curiosities and are adapted as necessary.
What does a day in Cherry Class look like?
Each morning begins with 'busy fingers' (a range of fine motor skills activities) as the children come in and settle, and registration takes place.
We have a daily phonics session following the Little Wandle scheme of learning. Our weekly maths sessions follow White Rose planning. Throughout the week, we also have a range of other adult-led sessions such as Literacy, including 'Drawing Club', RE, Understanding the World and PSHE, and Chatterbox Time'.
A lot of our time in Early Years is spent in 'busy learning' (child-initiated play) where the children have the opportunity to learn through play, creating and exploring their own interests and ideas. Children have access to our well-resourced indoor and outdoor areas.
In our class, we love to share stories together and explore lots of interesting types of books!
